Animals are an important part of our environment and add to the beauty of our world in the proper settings. However, they can become pests when they invade landscaped areas, homes and other buildings. To a greater extent, raccoons, opossums, and skunks can carry diseases and other illnesses such as Rabies (Lyssavirus), Raccoon Roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis), Giardiasis (Giardia spp.), Leptospirosis (Leptospira Interrogans), and have also been associated with spreading canine distemper, among other diseases. Some of these diseases can cause severe paralysis and even death. It is important to remember that humans and animals share approximately 175 known communicable diseases. While the average person has very little to worry about, avoiding direct contact with wildlife is always recommend. When you experience a wildlife pest problem it is always best to leave it to the professionals who have the proper tools and experience in animal removal.

Opossums don't really play dead. It's a physiological response which causes them to pass out when confronted with stress. This reaction produces a comatose state that can last from 40 minutes to four hours. While "dead," the opossum's body is limp, it's front feet form into balls and drool runs out of its mouth. It may even appear that rigor mortis has begun!
